Google Health is what the Fitbit app became in May 2026, and for most Android users it is now the place health data lands — from a Pixel Watch, a Fitbit Air, an older Fitbit tracker, or anything else feeding Health Connect. Is Google Health a good WHOOP alternative?
Yes on Android, and the answer barely depends on which tracker you own. Google Health writes heart rate, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, steps and exercise into Health Connect, and Lamplit reads Health Connect — so a Pixel Watch, a Fitbit Air and a three-year-old Charge all arrive through the same door with the same shape.
What Google Health does not do is close the loop. Its Premium tier at $9.99 a month adds an AI health coach, but it remains a body-metrics app: it does not know what you ate, whether you fasted, where you are in your cycle, or what you wrote about your week. The three scores that stand in for WHOOP's
Readiness — the recovery score
Readiness answers the question WHOOP's Recovery percentage answers: how much have you actually got today? It is a 0–100 weighted score over four inputs — heart-rate variability against your own rolling baseline, last night's sleep, your acute-to-chronic training load, and resting heart rate. It renormalises over the inputs it can genuinely see, so a device that publishes sleep and heart rate but not HRV still returns an honest score instead of a broken one. Below about a third of coverage it declines to guess and shows nothing at all.
Effort — the strain score
Effort is the day's training load on a 0–100 scale, built from heart-rate-zone minutes converted into moderate-equivalent minutes and scaled against the World Health Organization's 150-minutes-a-week guidance. Where WHOOP's Strain is a proprietary 0–21 curve, Effort is a published formula you can check: vigorous minutes count double, and a day with no readable zone data says so rather than inventing a number.
Lamplit Age — the biological-age estimate
Lamplit Age is the counterpart to WHOOP Age — an estimate of how your habits and measurements compare with the years on your passport, expressed as an offset in either direction, plus a pace-of-aging figure. It runs nine inputs over a rolling 28-day window: resting heart rate, VO₂ max, sleep duration, sleep quality, sleep consistency, steps, heart-rate-zone minutes, strength work and lean-mass index. Missing inputs are dropped rather than replaced by an average, which pulls a sparse profile toward your real age instead of flattering it. The honest caveats
This is an Android route. On iPhone, Google Health imports from Apple Health but does not write back to it, so nothing flows onward to Lamplit — iPhone users should look at the Apple Watch, Garmin or Oura pairings instead. Google Health is also a hub, not a sensor: if your tracker doesn't measure heart-rate variability, no amount of plumbing will produce it, and Readiness will build from the inputs that do arrive.
Lamplit ships no hardware, and it isn't going to. It reads what your device's own app already computed, so it cannot sample your heart rate around the clock and it cannot notice a workout that nothing recorded. A screenless sensor that runs for days and never comes off is the thing WHOOP genuinely sells, and no software layer replaces it.
Wearable sync is a Pro feature at $5.99 a month. Readiness, Effort, Lamplit Age and the Longevity Score are free on every plan — but on the free plan they run on what you log by hand, not on what your watch measured.
Your device's numbers are your device's numbers. Lamplit does not re-derive heart-rate variability from a raw signal; if your wearable's sleep staging runs optimistic, Lamplit inherits that. Changing devices mid-year will show up as a step change in your baselines, and the app will not pretend otherwise.
None of these scores is a medical device, a diagnosis or a prediction about your lifespan. Neither is WHOOP's. The difference is that Lamplit's methodology is published in full, so you can see exactly which association each number rests on.
