Honest Caveats

Zone boundaries are estimates, not laws. Age-based maximum heart-rate formulas miss real maximums by wide margins in both directions, individual physiology varies, and some medications — beta blockers most notably — lower heart rate across the board, which makes percentage-based zones misleading; the talk test still works.
